Georgia Hargrave Obituary

HARTFORD CITY – Georgia "Ann" Hargrave, 67, of Hartford City passed away Monday, July 9, 2018 at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, unexpectedly after a brief illness. She was born June 29, 1951 in Winchester, to the late Lee and Georgia (Alexander) Hargrave.
Ann was a 1969 graduate of Winchester High School and went on to Ball State University to earn her Bachelor's degree and her Master's degree in Special Education. Ann spent most of her career teaching Emotionally Handicapped children but taught all areas including severe, profound and mildly/mentally handicapped children. She spent many years at Washington Carver and ended her career at Sutton Elementary. Ann was known for her true love of teaching in the classroom and taking her children on many fieldtrips out into the "real" world including Chicago museums, Isanogel overnight camping trips, Wandering Wheels in Upland, Indiana and many others. Ann truly believed in her children and their potential. She was known to have eyes in the back of her head and indeed never left a single child behind anywhere.
Ann will live forever in the heart of Brenda her wife of 32 years (legally married celebrating their 4th anniversary this past June 28th). She will be missed incredibly for her ball throwing abilities by her beloved 2-year-old Daschund, Poppy. She lives on in the hearts of her siblings, Lee Hargrave (wife, Janet), Mary Alice Carpenter (husband, Ken), and Richard and Carolyn Hargrave. She will be forever in the hearts of her cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her bestie, Karan Kaluzynski and countless colleagues that will miss her wit and charm and downright intent to have a good time no matter what.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Buck Speakman (wife, Carolyn) and her beloved Applejack, Cocoberry, Susie (the landshark), Maggie Mae, Josie and Pepper.
Ann was adamant about her last wishes of no funeral service. Instead a party and celebration of her life will honor that on Saturday, August 4th. The Final Pondstock honoring the Great Fisherwoman and Whisperer will be held at her residence. All our welcome. While people come at all hours, we will gather at 3 pm to share the incredible life of the one and only Ann Hargrave. While her heart no longer beats there isn't a single doubt in any one's mind we have lost the biggest heart in the family. Some people are going to have to step up and fill some pretty big shoes. She left lots of roadmaps and clues to do just that thing.
In lieu of flowers, these are the things that rocked Ann's world. If you so wish please make donations in her name to the Youth Opportunity Center, Isanogel Center or ARF (Animal Rescue Fund) or any others of your choosing.
