Wanda Long Obituary

Wanda Eileen Long, age 87 of Yardley, PA, passed away, due to a sudden heart attack, on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Jefferson Bucks Hospital in Langhorne, PA. Born in Ridgeville, Indiana, Wanda lived in Yardley for the past 50 years.
For the Morrisville United Methodist Church records, she recently wrote of herself: "I am old but young at heart! I like to be busy with meaningful activities. I like to work outside in the yard and to grow things in the garden. We have lived in Indianapolis IN, Shreveport LA, Los Gatos CA, and Yardley PA. I grew up on a farm in Randolph County IN and met Harold (my husband) while attending Purdue University. We have been very active in the UMC wherever we have lived. As a former Home Ec. teacher, I enjoy many crafts, sewing, teaching, fiber arts, etc. I also enjoy music, exercising, playing games, puzzles, etc." She enjoyed making quilts, wall hangings and creative greeting cards for family members and friends and for special occasions. She especially enjoyed phone calls with her sisters in Indiana, with her family and friends locally and texting with her granddaughter. She enjoyed nature and was very fond of butterflies. In her formative years she was very active in 4-H and the family's cattle business. She won numerous champion awards for the heifer she raised and for showmanship.
Mrs. Long was a life-time member of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, having taught in Indiana and the Pennsbury School District in Bucks County, PA. She was a past President and long-time member of the Pennsbury Scholarship Foundation, where she helped implement significant changes. Additionally, she was a member of the Morrisville United Methodist Church, where she led and contributed in many ways, which include the United Women of Faith and many children's programs.
Daughter of the late Simon Pearlie Burton and Thelma (Swallow) Burton, she is survived by her loving husband Harold "Hal" Long, a daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Mark Bevenour, of Philadelphia, a son, Brian Long of Morrisville, two sisters, Melba Shilling of Knox, IN and Clarisa Clevenger of Ridgeville, IN, one granddaughter, Genevieve Bevenour, and several nieces and nephews. Two other sisters of Wanda, June (Potter) and Ada (McCord) predeceased her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 11 AM at the Deerfield Methodist Church, 7735 US Highway 27, Ridgeville, IN 47380. Lunch will follow at the church. The interment of ashes will be held on June 19 at 11 AM at the Greene County Chapel Cemetery, 4512 N Greene County Line Rd, Solsberry, IN 47459.
