David Wilkening Obituary
David was born on November 7, 1956, in State Center, Iowa, the son of the late Eugene Wilkening and Marilyn (Eatwell) Wilkening. He graduated in 1975 from West Marshall High School and then studied airplane mechanics at Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma. David was married to Lori Kinzler for many years and then later divorced. David owned DGW Services, a landscaping company, and enjoyed his summers laying lawns and his winters plowing the snow. David was a founding member of the Lord of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Winneconne, Wisconsin.
David's love of airplanes was a life-long passion as he worked as an airplane mechanic for over 40 years and was an active advocate of the EAA in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. In recent years he worked restoring airplanes for museums across the nation. David enjoyed singing, travelling the world, polka jam bands, restoration work on antiques, a good fish fry and Wisconsin cheese, was a passionate Green Bay Packer fan, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and spending time with his beloved cat Margaret.
David is survived by his sister, Connie (Charles) Sigrist, Kirby, Wyoming; his nieces, Codi Sigrist and Casey Sigrist, Lincoln, Nebraska; his aunt, Rowena Nelson, Clifton, Arizona. He is also survived by many relatives and beloved friends.
A visitation friends and family will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne, Wisconsin. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 20 at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marshalltown, Iowa. All friends and family are invited to attend the memorial service and the graveside service.
