Mr. Alexander Henderson Galloway, Jr. died peacefully on February 14, 2025, with his loving wife by his side. Alex was born in Winston-Salem on February 20, 1935, the oldest son of the late Alexander Henderson Galloway, Sr. and Martha Erckman Galloway.

Alex was a beloved husband, father, and friend who cherished the relationships he developed throughout his life. He delighted in spending time with family and friends and was always ready to share a joke, a story, or a drink. Friends will remember him for the "colorful" cards that would arrive to honor a birthday or holiday. For many years, he sent as many as 250 cards to family and friends, old and new.

He attended RJ Reynolds High School in Winston Salem and graduated from Woodberry Forest School in 1953, where he played football and ran track. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he attended Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. Alex was proud to serve as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1961.

In 1961, he returned home to Winston-Salem where he lived for the rest of his life. He began his career at RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company as a Zone Credit Manager. He joined Wheat First Securities and remained with the company for over 50 years through multiple mergers and acquisitions. He retired from Wells Fargo Advisors in 2018 as a Vice President and Investment Officer.

Alex was dedicated to serving his community and the organizations that he loved. He was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati and the Rotary Club. He regularly served on boards including the Boy Scouts of America, Centenary Methodist Church, Red Shield Boys Club, Children's Center, Salem Cemetery, North Carolina School of the Arts, Summit School, YMCA, Roaring Gap Club, and the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce. Alex was a passionate sports fan who always enjoyed attending or watching a game, particularly his Tar Heels.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Berry Galloway; his son, Alexander Henderson Galloway III and his wife Tracey of Charlotte; his son, Joseph Andrew "Jay" Galloway and his wife Carrie of Charlotte; his grandchildren, Alex IV, Lane, Celia and Eliza of Charlotte; and many nieces and nephews. Alex was preceded in death by his brothers, James Gray Galloway and Robert Galloway.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jeff Williamson, Ian Harwell, Lateisha Summers and the staff at Brighton Gardens, and the Stokes Team at Trellis Supportive Care for the exceptional care they provided to Alex during the last year of his life. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 18th at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends following the service in the Colhoun Room. Condolences may be made online at www.salemfh.com.
