Alice Nevada Holman Atwood (76) passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, March 29th, in the company of her family. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Alice was born in West Jefferson, N.C., and graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. She married Cecil Forrest (Butch) Atwood in June 1968, and they had two children, Britton Nevada and Todd Forrest. Butch Atwood passed away in 1992, and in October of 1998, Alice remarried Patrick Considine. They enjoyed a joyous 25 years of marriage together. Alice was a dedicated teacher and touched the lives of many students and fellow teachers in a unique way. She started her career at Lansing Elementary and later continued at West Jefferson Elementary as a Technology Specialist. Her passion for education extended beyond the classroom, and she was a devoted volunteer to many causes, including Bethany Methodist, Ashe Services for Aging (Meals on Wheels), Ashe Food Pantry, The Paul and Florence Thomas Memorial Art School, and P.E.O. Alice is survived by her husband, Pat, her sister, Noel Miller, her daughter, Britton, and husband Noel Clarke (Freeport, Bahamas/West Jefferson, N.C.) and their children, Nina and Simone, as well as her son, Todd and his wife Heidi and their four children, Forrest, Salem, Lula Alice, and Ingrid (San Diego, Calif.). She also celebrated her two stepchildren, Julia Considine Pierce (Asheville, N.C.) and her husband Scott Pierce and their two boys, Noah and Ethan, as well as Sean Considine (New York, N.Y.), his wife Catalina, and their two girls, Camilla and Elia, and the late Corey Considine. A service to remember and honor Alice will be held at her church, Bethany United Methodist in Baldwin, N.C., at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 6th. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and then a family reception in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, Generations Ashe Meals on Wheels, and Ashe Food Pantry. Alice will be remembered for her beautiful smile and contagious spirit. Her legacy will live on forever in all of us.
