FOREST CITY - Mr. Allen Hall Painter, 96, of 197 Fairview St. died Oct. 10, 2003 in an Asheville hospital. He was a native of Mecklenburg County, the son of the late Latta Hall Painter and Lula Bumgardner Painter. He was a retired savings and loan executive and a resident of Rutherford County since 1927. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Forest City, serving as a deacon for more than 60 years and in other capacities. A member of the Forest City Lions Club for moer than 60 years, he served as president and in other club offices and as a recipient of the Lion of the Year award and was a Melvin Jones Fellow. He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Orr Painter. Survivors include a daughter, Stephany P. Alphin, of Winston-Salem, sons Allen Hall Painter Jr. of Wilmington and Thomas Ladd Painter of Asheville; sisters, Eula P. Ferguson and Martha P. Garris of Charlotte; a brother, Edward D. Painter, of Ocala, Fla; five grandsons and four great-grandsons. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the First Baptist Church of Forest City. Dr. Barry K. Keys and the Rev. J. Anthony Spencer will officiate. The family will receive visitors in the church parlor during the hour preceding the service. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 211 W. Main St., Forest City, NC 28043 or to a charity of the donor's choice. The Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
