TOBACCOVILLE - Mr. Alton Ried Kye, 73, of Ridge Road died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002. He was born July 26, 1929, in Davidson County to Gilmer Eugene and Thelma Reed Kye. He retired from Southern Bell after 39 years of service. Ried had served with the U.S. Navy and was a member of American Legion Post 290 in King. He was also a member of King Masonic Lodge No. 722, Amran Shrine Temple, King Hillbilly Clan No. 153 and the Stokes County Shrine Club. Preceding him in death were his parents; and a brother, Wilburn Kye. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Vogler “Piff” Kye of the home; two sons, Frankie Eugene (Krystal) Kye of Tobaccoville and Stevie Wayne Kye of Bahama; three grandchildren; a sister, Betty Bailey of Winston-Salem; and two brothers, Bobby Kye of Tobaccoville and Hoyle Kye of Charlotte. He was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, with the Rev. David Spaulding officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at Slate Funeral Home in King. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital,P.0. Box 1945, King, NC 27021.

I'm sorry to hear of Reid's passing. I got to know Reid as an employee of BellSouth when I worked at the Glenn Ave office.He often came in the office and I have fond memories of him.
