WELCOME - Annie Eris "Polly" Moose Bates, 80, of Hoover Road in Welcome died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at The Oaks at Forsyth. Polly was born on June 14, 1923, in Alexander County, the daughter of Dewey and Marie Hartness Moose. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Henry Bates; two brothers, Beveridge and David Moose; and a sister, June Moose Martin. Surviving are a sister, Carolyn Moose Bailey of Statesville; a brother, Richard Stephen Moose of Hickory; her children, Sylvia Bates Craver and husband Eddie, Bonnie Bates Von Stein, Zella "Kitty" Bates Minter and husband Bill, all of Welcome, Ramona Bates Ravan and husband Sam of Inman, S.C., and George Ronald "Ronnie" Bates and wife Peggy of Trinity; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Polly was a loving and dedicated homemaker, wife and mother. She loved playing the piano and organ. She was the organist and choir director at Center United Methodist Church in Welcome for many years. She was also a nurse's aide at Lexington Memorial Hospital and PPG industries. She was an accomplished orchid grower and a member of the Triad Orchid Society. Polly's other hobbies included gardening, quilting, sewing, knitting and crocheting The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 27, at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. at Center United Methodist Church in Welcome with a graveside service immediately following. The services will be presided over by the Rev. Al Varner and Pastor Wally Yarbrough. Memorials may be made to Center United Methodist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 179, Welcome, NC, 27374.
