STOREY WINSTON-SALEM - God saw a need to call our loved one Home to be with our Lord and Savior. Mrs. Annie Hunter Storey of Brookridge Retirement Home passed away Monday, November 29, 2010 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. A native of Forsyth County, she was born November 26, 1921 to Clyde C. Hunter and Addie Kiger Hunter, and graduated from Old Richmond School. She received her B.S. and M.A. degrees from Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. She also attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Columbia University, New York City for additional studies. Her teaching career started in the Winston-Salem Schools where she taught several years. Later, while living in Wilmington, North Carolina, and teaching on the Camp Lejeune Marine Base, she met and married Charles Vaughan Storey. She and Charles moved to Jacksonville, Florida when his work with Atlantic Coast Line Railroad transferred there. She then became a member of the Justina Road Elementary School faculty. After taking additional courses, she received her Elementary Principal Certificate and later worked as an Elementary Curriculum Supervisor. Along with other professional organizations, she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary teacher's society. In 1985, she retired from the Duval County Schools in Jacksonville, Fl.. With her love for Nature, she became an active member of the Abelia Garden Club and served as President. She received a Life Membership in the Garden Club of Jacksonville, F.L. for her loyal service in working with the Clubs. During their 32 years in Florida, she and Charles were faithful members of Parkwood Baptist Church and she worked with youth groups, taught in the Junior Department and was active with the Missionary Society. When moving to Winston-Salem, she and Charles joined Clemmons First Baptist Church and Frank Morgan's Sunday School Class, being faithful members as long as health permitted. She was Past Matron of Arlington Chapter No. 222, Order of the Eastern Star, Jacksonville, Fl and a faithful member of Clemmons Chapter No. 373 after returning to Winston-Salem, N.C. As long as her health permitted, she enjoyed the meetings and fellowship of the group. She was also active with her husband in the Arlington Shrine Club of Jacksonville, working with Shriner's Crippled Children Hospital in Tampa, Fl. Survivors include a niece, Pama B. McClenny and son, Tony; nephews, Michael Berry and wife Pam, Billy Whitson and wife, Charlene, and their daughters, Cassie and Sarah; along with some cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Storey was preceded in death by a brother William Thomas Hunter and two sisters, Kate Hunter Berry and Nellie Hunter Whitson. A funeral will be conducted 11:00AM Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Chaplain Maurice Briggs and Rev. Dr. Robby Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Clemmons First Baptist Church, P.O.
