Barbara Key Obituary

KEY GERMANTON Barbara Morton Key Dec. 6, 1933 - April 23, 2012 Barbara Morton Key, loving mother, grandmother and friend, passed from this earth to her new home with God on Monday afternoon, April 23, 2012 at Walnut Ridge Assisted Living. Her loving heart is a gift, her generous spirit is so beloved by many, now her journey in this life is complete and her angel wings are fitted for an eternity. She was born December 6, 1933 in Stokes County to Earl Samuel and Lucy Doss Morton. She was a very active member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, serving in the choir and the children's ministry. She was retired from Sara Lee Corporation with over 40 years of service. An 11:00 a.m. funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at St. Mark United Methodist Church with Rev. Kel Billings officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Thomas "Wayne" Key, Sr.; one sister, Edith Isom and two brothers, Norman Morton and Teddy Morton. She is survived by two sons, Tommy Key of Winston-Salem, David Key and wife Barbara of Holly Springs; three precious grandchildren, Elizabeth, Lauren, and Tyler Key; two sisters, Carol Gray and husband Tommy of Winston-Salem, Mildred Wilson and husband Ed of Tucson, AZ; one brother, Earl Morton and wife Helen of Walnut Cove; sister-in-law, Betty Morton Griffin of Danbury, and a host of wonderful nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know her kindness. Her courage and strength in the face of adversity is a lesson for all to admire and emulate. She was a one of a kind force who fought as long and as hard as she could, and emerged a champion. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Burroughs Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 9930 Baux Mountain Road, Germanton, NC 27019 or Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Stokes County, PO Box 863, Walnut Cove, NC 27052. The race has been won--glory has come. Even to a virtual stranger Barbara was kind, concerned and warm. Thank God for his servant's homegoing.
