Barbara Taylor Obituary

Taylor, Barbara Jean Peddycord Sands

January 29, 1939 - May 7, 2022

TAYLOR

KERNERSVILLE

Barbara Jean Peddycord Sands Taylor, 83, went home to be with her Lord May 7, 2022, at Summerstone Health and Rehabilitation Center in Kernersville, NC.

She was born in Davidson County, NC, to the late Henry Eugene and Dessie Holden Peddycord. She retired from Southern Bell; after a 20-year career, to care for her grand-daughter, Laura, who was the light of her life. Barbara loved and cared deeply for her family and friends.

Barbara had a strong faith in God and was an active member of Fulp Moravian Church where she was in the Women's Fellowship, the Choir, was a LoveFeast Diener, played softball, taught Bible school, and really enjoyed Laurel Ridge Moravian Church Camp Retreats and other fellowship events.

Many years after her husband, Jay's, death, Barbara married Luther Taylor and moved to Newport, Tennessee. She loved the Smokey Mountains and attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was active in Eastern Star, Gideon's, fellowship events, and volunteered with the Foster Grandparent Program.

Barbara enjoyed cooking, fellowship, playing softball, music, playing cards and games, sports, racing, and visiting the beach and Cherokee.

Unable to regain her ability to walk after a serious fall in January 2018, she re-located to Summerstone until her death.

She made many friends at Summerstone, where she enjoyed Bingo, Dominoes, Church services, movies, cooking, social games, activities, and preparing for resident and family functions.

Hospice began their care April 26, 2022, and Barbara departed peacefully from this world with her family by her side. We rest assured that Momma and Nana is in her Heavenly Home and suffers no more.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, W.J. Sands; her second husband, Luther Taylor; stepson, Gabriel Calvin Luther Taylor; and brother, Harvey Lee White, Jr.

Barbara is survived by her loving daughter, Scottie Lee Rader (Thomas), of Little River, S.C.; and stepdaughters, Shawna Parks, of Newport, TN, and Sabra Hamad of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Dr. Laura Garlow (Michael), and Byron Lee Rader (Julie); stepgrandchildren, Noelle Douglas (Jordan), Ariel Parks, and Omar Hamad; great-grandchildren, Grant and Holden Garlow, J.C., Anna, D.J., and Nathaniel Rader; stepgreat-grandson, Dillan Parks; her loving sister, JoAnn Criswell, of Loganville, GA; two very precious sisters-in-law, Sally White, of Cleveland, OH, and Irene Taylor, of Dandridge, TN; one special brother-in-law, W.D. Sands, of Walnut Cove, NC; and many other cherished family members and friends.

A "celebration of life service" will be held Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at Burroughs Chapel in Walnut Cove, NC, with Reverends Dan Nelson and Tim Sapp officiating. A light reception and visitation will follow the service.

Our family extends special thanks to Summerstone Health and Rehabilitation Center, Liberty Healthcare and Hospice Services, friends and loved ones at Fulp Moravian Church, and our many other loving and supportive friends and family members.

Memorials may be made to Fulp Moravian Church, 1556 US Hwy 311 South, Walnut Cove, NC 27052.
