Beauford Solomon Obituary

KERNERSVILLE - Beauford Odell Solomon, 91, passed away Friday, April 28, 2006, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after several years of battling bone cancer and Alzheimer's. He was born Sept. 9, 1914, in Stokes County to Pinkney Benjamin and Martha Hampton Solomon. Church. Since 1950, Odell was a very active member of Oaklawn Baptist. He also was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II. Mr. Solomon owned and operated Odell Solomon Lawn and Garden Center. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Darwin Solomon; and a great-grandson, Christopher Solomon. Surviving are his wife, Mary Smith Solomon of the home; a son, Talmadge Solomon and wife Rachel of Kernersville; three grandchildren, Shawn Solomon of Hollywood, Calif., Holly S. Barrett of Greensboro and Lee Solomon of Cary; and two sisters, Flora S. Manning of Kernersville and Peggy S. Brown of Bethania. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 1, at Oaklawn Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paul Riggs and the Rev. Jim Saul officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, April 30, at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home in Kernersville. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be directed to Oaklawn Baptist Church Building Fund, 3500 Kernersville Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Years ago, when I worked at A Cleaner World, I enjoyed his company when he would come visit. Mr. Solomon was a sweat man!
