Mr. Charles Jay Grubbs Sr., 85, of Winston-Salem passed away Tuesday, Oct.12, 2004, at his home. He was born April 28, 1919, in Forsyth County to Charles Pinnix and Alberta Reece Grubbs. Mr. Grubbs was a member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church. He was a scoutmaster for Troop No. 715 and was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 37 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Tate Grubbs. Surviving are two sons, Chris Grubbs and wife, Ann, of Winston-Salem and Chuck Grubbs and wife, Sabrina, of Texas; four granddaughters, Christine Aurea, Jamie Russell and husband, Matt, Sarah Swenson and husband, Dave, and Hannah Grubbs; a grandson, Kamen Grubbs; five great-grandsons, Ian Romaine, Joshua Aragorn, Ethan and Parker Russell and Gabriel Swenson; several nieces and nephews; and an adopted daughter, Patricia Walters. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at New Philadelphia Moravian Church with Dr. Worth Green officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Oct. 15, at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time. I know it is a great loss to each of you. I never met Charlie but having worked with Ann for many years and hearing all the wonderful things she had to say about him, I know he was a wonderful man. The wonderful memories will remain with you forever. Cherish them and God's love will sustain you.

My prayers are with the family. I have never met Charlie but having known Ann Grubbs, I felt I knew Charlie. She spoke so well of him and I know he was a blessing to his family.
