Clarence "Dorsey" Dyer, Jr., 76, passed away at his home on May 12, 2022. Dorsey was born on June 12, 1945, to Clarence and Ethel Lee (Emberson) Dyer in Ringgold, GA. However, he spent his childhood in Athens, Georgia with his parents and brother, Cooper. He graduated from Athens High School in 1963. Dorsey continued his education at Georgia Tech, graduating with a degree in engineering in 1968. After college, Dorsey moved to Atlanta and worked for the Atlanta Transportation Department. Dorsey met Susan Dougan in Atlanta, GA and they married on August 4, 1974. In 1976, Dorsey and Susan moved to Winston-Salem, NC. While in Winston-Salem, Dorsey earned his MBA from Appalachian State University. He put his degree to good use, teaching economics at Davidson County Community College for 22 years. Dorsey and Susan welcomed their daughter Elizabeth Lee in 1979. They raised Elizabeth in Winston-Salem, where they developed a great network of friends. Dorsey was active in his community and his church. Dorsey was a tremendous father, spending countless hours watching Elizabeth play soccer, basketball, and running cross country. He would adjust his schedule whenever possible to attend every one of her academic and athletic events. In 2004, Elizabeth married Andrew Lupien in Portland, Maine with Dorsey the proud father of the bride. In 2010, Dorsey became a grandfather for the first time, welcoming Sarah Beth into the family. He welcomed his grandson, Silas Dorsey, in 2012. He was a caring grandfather, listening to band concerts and watching Little League highlights as often as he could. He relished taking his grandkids to watch the Dash and the Demon Deacons whenever they were in town. Dorsey was a dedicated and loving husband, spending much of his final years caring for his wife, Susan, as she battled with Alzheimer's. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend. He always put others first, and would do anything for his family. He will be missed by so many people, in so many places. Dorsey was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Susan Dougan Dyer, Winston-Salem; daughter, Elizabeth Lupien (Andrew) of South Portland, Maine; grandchildren, Sarah Beth Lupien and Silas Lupien; his brother, Cooper Dyer (Sherry) of Watkinsville, Georgia; and many cousins, second cousins and extended family members. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 21 at 1 p.m. at Parkway United Church of Christ with Rev. Craig Schaub officiating.
