Mr. Dallas William "Bill" Holcomb, 56, of Winston-Salem, a loving son, father and grandfather, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004. Mr. Holcomb was born Feb. 12, 1948, in Surry County to Weaver Greenfield Holcomb and Ruby Wiles Henderson. He was a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC-Greensboro. Mr. Holcomb was a former captain in the Winston-Salem and Washington, D.C., fire departments. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, served in the National Guard and was a Vietnam veteran. Mr. Holcomb was preceded in death by his father and stepfather, James Henderson. Surviving are four children, Holly McCann of Hamptonville, Courtney Holcomb of Winston-Salem, Nathan Holcomb of Charlotte and Scottie Holcomb of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Rebekah McCann, C.J. McCann, Bianca Holcomb and Joshua Holcomb; his mother of Hamptonvillle; and two brothers, Stonie Holcomb and wife Linda of Yadkinville and Gray Holcomb of Hamptonville. The Holcomb family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening, Oct. 1, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville by the Rev. Lee Strange. Burial will follow in the Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery.
