STOKESDALE - Mr. David Albert Blackburn, 49, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at his home. He was born in Forsyth County. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior in 1976 and has been a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church since that time, where he served as a deacon for many years. A devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather and son, David loved the Lord and his church. He was a friend to all, at all times, and was never ashamed to let the light and truth of Jesus Christ shine through him. After graduating from Northwest Guilford High School in 1971, he married his high-school sweetheart, Cynthia Cain. He was an independent insurance agent for 21 years, and through his integrity, gained the trust of hundreds. His true passion was farming and preserving the love of the land from generations past. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Dee "A.D." Blackburn. Surviving are his beloved wife and best friend of 311/2 years, Cynthia Cain Blackburn of the home; three daughters and their husbands, Amy B. and Warren D. Mecum of Lexington, Emily B. and Brad S. Logsdon of Stokesdale and Della Blackburn of the home and her fiance, Nathan W. Tyndall of Thomasville; his mother, Mary C. Blackburn of Stokesdale; two brothers, Joey (Robin) of Madison and Jeffrey (Lisa) of Stokesdale; three precious grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth Mecum, Micah Steven and Olivia Catherine Logsdon; two nieces; and two nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at Gospel Light Baptist Church by Dr. Bobby Roberson and the Rev. Frank Shumate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today, Feb. 23, at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home in Kernersville. Memorial contributions may be made to Gospel Light Baptist Church Bus Ministry, 890 Walkertown-Guthrie Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27101 and/or the Gideons International, P.O. Box 5811, Winston-Salem, NC 27113.

Dear Della,
We were so sad to learn of your Dad's death. We are Michelle's grandparents. We did not know your Dad, but had seen him at some of the ball games at GLCS when you and Michelle were playing. Each of us has experienced the sudden loss of our fathers, and we know the emotions at such a time. We know, too, the wonderful peace of God that fills the hearts of believers when God calls one of His own home. May His peace fill your heart and the hearts of all your family and loved ones. (Nahum 1:7)

Dear Cindi and Girls,
We are so saddened at the lost of your precious husband and dad. He was a great man and a wonderful Christian. That spot in the balcony will always be empty there even if someone is sitting there. You could count on him being there every time the doors were open. Let's just pray that the Lord will return soon so that we can join our loved ones. Our prayers are with you.
