SIMMONS Denise Lavern Simmons, 56, went home to be with the Lord on Monday morning, April 7, 2008, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Fleming; sister Alicia K. Jackson; and three uncles, Andrew Fleming, Derrios Brown and William T. Freeman Jr. She is survived by her three loving and devoted daughters, Chaundra D. Simmons-Blue (Darrell), Monique Jenkins (Christopher) and Alicia Nicole Simmons (Ricky); two grandchildren, Taylor Nicole and Ahmad Leon; three brothers, Nathaniel Fleming (Phyllis), Clifford and Kevin, all of the city; five sisters, Paulette Robinson (Willie V.) of Atlanta, Ga.; Andrea Jarrett (Paxon) of Kernersville; Tanya Dalton (James) of Virginia; Tara Turner (Rodney) and Trina Jackson; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 14, at Union Baptist Church, 1200 N. Trade St., Winston-Salem, NC 27105. Officiating will be Bishop John H. Heath of Greater Higher Ground Ministries Inc., where Ms. Simmons was a serving member. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27105, in memory of Denise Simmons. The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, nursing assistants and staff for the excellent care of their mother. To my children close to my heart, I' ll keep you with me. For I have an important job God has for me, There is love to give, and work to do. He needs an angel strong but small, to shine light on many and give love to all. Before I go I give you this, half my heart and one last kiss. I miss you dearly that you all know, But by God I was chosen, So to heaven, you must go.

To the Simmons family,
I am deeply sorry for your loss. For the short time that I cared for your mother, she was such a beautiful person and a wonderful patient. Always smiling, even through the pain. I remember how cozy her room was; I never wanted to leave. I hope that her room in Heaven is just as cozy. I pray for strengh for you all during this trying time. Always remember that joy comes in the morning...May God continue to bless and comfort you all.

To the wonderful family of Mrs. Simmons- I really enjoyed being with you all and taking care of your mother in the hospital. I am so sorry that she only had a short time left, but knowing you all, you made the most of it. There was always so much love in that room whenever I went in. It was very uplifting for me in spite of her grim diagnosis. She must have been such a wonderful woman and must have done such good things while she was here on earth. It was a priviledge taking care of you all. I will always remember her, and I know that she lives on in your hearts every day. May she bask in the glory of Heaven's light forever and ever.

To the family of Ms. Denise Simmons;
Words simply cannot express the sorrow in my heart for the loss of your mother. She was truly a gem. While caring for her at the hospital I never heard your mom utter a complaining word. She was always so prayerful and so grateful. She was just a beautiful person and I am grateful to have been in her presence if only for a brief time. I grieve with you in your loss; My prayers are with you. I pray God will sustain you and give you strength. Isaiah 40:31

Chaundra, Monique, Coley, Aunt Tara , Trina, Paulette, Tanya, Uncle Nakie, Clifford , Kevin, Ms. Jackson, Ma and Kay:

Your family is like a second family to me. I know how close you all are. I say are because I want you to know that your mother, sister, daughter, and aunt is forever with each and everyone of you guiding and protecting you every step of the way on this journey called, “Life”. Aunt Niecey, always greeted me with a beautiful smile, made me laugh, and those fish fry’s I will hold dear. She will forever hold a special place in my heart. When times get hard know GOD is just a prayer away, she is an angel in HIS army now and will get you through it. I love you all and if need me I’m just a call away.

“Let me…find refuge under the shelter of your wings”
