Dwayne Hampton Obituary

HAMPTON ELKIN - Mr. Dwayne Coe Hampton, 65, of Elkin, passed away Sunday September 6, 2009 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born April 25, 1944 in Surry County to Wade and Dovie Coe Hampton. Mr. Hampton was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He retired from Duke Power after 35 years of service. He was a kind hearted man with a sweet spirit who loved his family dearly. Mr. Hampton was very active in his church and assisted the brotherhood with various church projects. He also assisted seniors with their needs and provided CD ministry for shut ins. Mr. Hampton was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Ann Park Hampton of the home; daughters, Lynn Clayton & husband David of Elkin, and Tammy Gragg & husband Mitchell of Boone; two brothers, Benny Bryant Hampton & wife Peggy of Troy, and Terry Brent Hampton & wife Annis of Elkin; two grandchildren, Jake Gragg and Kasey Gragg and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, September 9, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Elkin Funeral Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Friendship Baptist Church, 633 Friendship Church Road, in Elkin, by Rev. Jonah Parker and Rev. Wesley Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friendship Baptist Church or Samaritans Purse Ministry, PO Box 3000 Boone, NC 28607. Online condolences may be made at www.elkinfuneralservice.com. Elkin Funeral Service is serving the Hampton family.
