Earlene Shepherd Obituary

SHEPHERD LAUREL SPRINGS - Earlene Houck Shepherd, 63, of 4424 Cranberry Creek Road, Laurel Springs, died Tuesday morning, June 12, 2007, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was the daughter of the late Herbert and Bessie Lewis Houck; the widow of Edwin Shepherd; and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cassie Thompson; and six brothers and sisters. She was a dispatcher at the Law Enforcement Center in Sparta and was very active in community activities, including the Laurel Springs Volunteer Fire Department. She is survived by a son, Chip Shepherd of Laurel Springs; a daughter, Judy Crepps of Laurel Springs, four grandchildren, Trey and Ryan Southerland and Jacob and Chad Johnson; two sisters, Grace Mabe of Independence, Va., and Winnie Peg Good of Sparta; two brothers, Orvel "Short" Houck of Warrensville and Walter Houck of Lexington; special niece Delilah Richardson; special nephew Steve Marmie; sister-in-law and husband Sally and Jarvis Dickens of Laurel Springs; her son-in-law and his wife, Denver and Michelle Thompson of Sherrills Ford, and Michelle' s daughter, Caroline Millar; and several other nieces and nephews, who also survive. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at Bellview Baptist Church at Laurel Springs. Burial will follow in Cranberry Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at the church, and at other times at her home. Flowers are appreciated, or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Janet McKnight, 2511 Mountain View Road, Glade Valley, NC 28627. Grandview Memorial Funeral Home of Sparta is serving the Shepherd family.
