Elmer Rule Obituary

RULE Mr. Elmer Leaton Rule, 83, of Winston-Salem passed away Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Rule was born in Forsyth County on Jan. 8, 1924, to the late John Talmadge and Lela Cromer Rule. He was a member of New Mount Vernon United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Men. Mr. Rule served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 35 years of service. Mr. Rule was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Bowman Rule; and a brother, William Howard Rule. He is survived by a daughter, Linda R. Kimmer, and husband Buddy of Winston-Salem; and two sisters, Mildred Cartner and Elizabeth "Lib" Petree, both of Winston-Salem. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at New Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lanny Lancaster officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening, Jan. 7, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, 6408 Friendship-Ledford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107, or Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for their compassionate care and concern. Linda and Buddy,
It's hard to believe that we have lost Uncle Elmer. I know what it is like to lose your Dad and so, I'm here for you. I can see dad, Uncle Norman, your mom and dad sitting around talking and laughing - just as they use to do years ago. Just stay in touch.
