Forrest Vogler Obituary

VOGLER WINSTON-SALEM - Forrest Mosby Vogler, 92, passed away peacefully at her residence at Arbor Acres on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010. She was born on August 7, 1917 in Waynesboro, VA. She was the youngest daughter of Dr. Ernest and Kathryn Mosby. She graduated from St. Mary's School in Raleigh and Salem College in Winston-Salem. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, F. Eugene Vogler, Jr.; and her grandson, Blanton Miley Vogler. Together, Forrest and Gene enjoyed 62 wonderful years in Winston-Salem, raising their four children, traveling and golfing with friends, and spoiling their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides caring for her family: gardening, bird watching, shelling and fishing gave her great pleasure. She was an avid rose enthusiast and will be remembered for the gorgeous roses she grew throughout her lifetime. She especially enjoyed sharing them with others. She spent many wonderful winters on Captiva Island, Florida, where she raised orchids and enjoyed the tropical birds, fishing and shelling. She spent summers at Lake Norman boating, raising wildflowers and hosting many memorable family gatherings. She was a member of Forsyth Country Club. In her younger years, she was active in the Junior League, Evergreen Garden Club and Home Moravian Church, where she was a member. She is survived by son, Gene Vogler III (Gina) of Mt. Airy, NC, daughter, Whitley Rotgin (Chuck) of Charlottesville, VA, son, Mosby Vogler (Meredith) of Winston-Salem, and son, Joe Vogler (Beth) of Weaverville, NC; daughter-in-law, Julia Vogler of Winston-Salem; a sister, Anne Cover of Staunton, VA; a sister-in-law, Blevins Baldwin of Winston-Salem; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Salem Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, Jan. 29, from 5 - 7 p.m. A Graveside Service celebrating her life, conducted by Bishop Wayne Burkette and the Rev. Carl Southerland, will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 11 a.m. at Salem Cemetery. The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to Dr. David Collins, Dr. Stanley Link, Wanda Griggs and her other wonderful caregivers. Memorials may be made in her honor to Arts for Life, PO Box 788 Weaverville, NC 28787, The Branner Baldwin Medical Fund of Home Moravian Church, 529 South Main St., W-S, NC, 27101, or a charity of your choice.
