YADKINVILLE - Lt. Col. Francis Myers "Mutt" Mackie, USAF Ret., 85, of Summerville, S.C., and formerly of Yadkinville, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, at Summerville Medical Center. He was born June 14, 1921, in Yadkinville to the late Milas Wilson and Martha Lee Myers Mackie. He was a graduate of schools in Pennsylvania and Wake Forest College in Wake Forest. Mr. Mackie was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in World War II, the Vietnam War and the Korean Conflict, and was a member of St. George Episcopal Church in Summerville. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Dr. George Mackie, Blanche Mackie, Milas Wilson Mackie Jr. and Thomas Wilson Mackie. Surviving are his beloved wife, Vaune Rowe Mackie, of the home; a son, Ret. Major Francis Myers Mackie Jr., of Valdosta, Ga.; a daughter, Melissa Rowe Mackie, of Atlanta, Ga.; a grandson, Michael Ward Mackie, of Wilmington; and a sister, Kate Allen, of Weldon. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug 21, at Yadkinville Cemetery, formerly known as Mackie Family Cemetery in Yadkinville, with the Rev. Richard Eskew officiating and full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Yadkin Christian Ministries, P.O. Box 204, Yadkinville, NC 27055, or to St. George's Episcopal Church, 9110 Dorchester Road, Summerville, SC 29485. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Mackie family.
