George Fragakis Obituary

CHARLOTTE - Mr. George Fragakis, 93, of Charlotte died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at Sharon Towers. He was born in Klafsion, Evrytania, Greece, on Oct. 13, 1913, son of the late John G. and Maria Kranis Fragakis, and came to the United States as a young man. Mr. Fragakis was married for 53 years to Mary Eoannou Fragakis, who preceded him in death in 2000. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and operated restaurants for many years. Mr. Fragakis enjoyed swimming and exercise. He spent many hours exercising at the Harris YMCA, even into his early 90s, and was an avid gardener. He served on the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Parish Council, and he and his wife, Mary, volunteered many hours of their time there. He received the Archangel Michael Honor from the Diocese of Atlanta for his service. He was also honored by the Charlotte Office of the U.S. Secret Service for his assistance and support. Mr. Fragakis enjoyed his many friendships while a resident of Sharon Towers since 2003, and he and his family appreciate the staff's support. He is survived by three children, John Fragakis and wife Sophia of Winston-Salem, Eve Pappas and husband Pete of Charlotte and William Fragakis and wife Lisa of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren Natalie Spinosa and her husband, Chris, Anna Fragakis, Bree and Lauren Pappas, and Simon and Mary Fragakis; and great-grandson, John Christopher Spinosa. Funeral services for Mr. Fragakis will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 22, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, with the Rev. Michael Varvarelis and the Rev. Stathi Varvarelis officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Foundation, 600 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203; Sharon Towers, 5100 Sharon Road, Charlotte, NC 28210; or to a charity of the donor's choice. John, Eve and William
I was saddened to hear about your Father's passing. I recall both our Dad's companionship and frienship, as fellow Evrytanians over the years in Charlotte. I have many fond memories of both your Parents when we were growing up in Charlotte. They were always very friendly and kind.
May his memory be eternal.
Our sympathy and prayers are with you and your Families during this most difficult time.
From an old friend,

Robert Bowman

To Mr George's Family
Mr. George was one of the sweetest and most thoughtful people that I have ever known. I met him at Sharon Towers when I worked as a receptionist there. He will be missed by many.

I am sorry to learn of your Father's death, John. Your time with me so many years ago was such a joyous one, I have never forgotten the two of you. Just want you to know that I think of you often and seeing Mr. George's name and picture reminded of the fact. I am sure that he lived his time to the fullest!!! You were lucky!!! God bless you.
