HIGH POINT - Our precious Lord took the hand of Hazel Ruth Easter Simmons and led her home. Mrs. Simmons was born Sept. 13, 1931, and died Wednesday, April 20, 2005. Born in Mount Airy, she was the daughter of Lucas and Myrtle Snow Easter, who preceded her in death. She was a member of Conrad Memorial Baptist Church. Mrs. Simmons was employed at Roses Department Store at High Point Mall until its closing. Then she was employed with J.C. Penney in the dress department until her retirement. In January 1950 she married Chester Leon Simmons, who also preceded her in death. Her surviving children are Karen Ankelein and her husband, Steve, of Archdale and their two children, Chris and Lauren, Kathy Dill and her husband, Joe, of High Point and their two children, Jennifer and Jessica, Tammy Twisdale and her husband, Edward, of High Point, Jeff Simmons and Anita Mashburn of Asheboro and his two children, Alana and Luke, and her children, Kolbi and Bianca Mashburn, and Talbitha Lanier, Kim Adams and her husband, Andy, of Fort Mill, S.C., with their two children, Beth and Kaitlyn. She has been blessed with two great-grandsons, Joey Dill and Braden Ankelein. She is survived as well by her only sibling, Mrs. Ray (Zella) Blackburn of Mount Airy. Mrs. Simmons is also survived by a multitude of caregivers at Evergreens Senior Care Center of High Point. The care, kindness and love shown to Mrs. Simmons and her family by the nurses, nursing assistance cafeteria and housekeeping staff will never be forgotten. The family would also like to extend its greatest appreciation to Hospice of the Piedmont and the ALS Center at Wake Forest University Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A cryptside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 22, at Floral Garden Park Mausoleum with the Rev. John Fitzgerald officiating. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 this evening, April 21, at Sechrest Funeral Service. You are invited to share your thoughts and fond memories with our family through www.mem.com
