James Huie worked hard his entire life until his death on July 24, 2021. He was born in Wilkes County, NC on December 25, 1930 to Milo and Pearlie Hawkins Huie. He married Margaret Holbrook when he was 18 and moved to Winston-Salem to work at Hanes Hosiery. Two years later he was drafted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. When he returned home, he went to work at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co, and worked there for more than 30 years, eventually becoming a chief mechanic. He retired the day Margaret received a terminal cancer diagnosis and cared for her until she passed. Later, he married Lois Hill and they were together more than 20 years. In addition to their home in Pfafftown, they also had a house in Hillsville, VA which brought them much happiness. Lois died in 2016, but James continued to take care of his house and yard despite having a broken hip. He loved yard work and repairing machines of any kind. He could fix or build almost anything. Throughout much of his life he had the love and care of dear friends, Ray and Peggy Lambert. He is survived by one son, Michael, a daughter-in-law, Brook Davis and two grandchildren, Ian and Lucy Davis-Huie, all of Winston-Salem. James frequently said how proud he was of them, and they will always be very proud of him. A special thanks to the good people at Village Care of King and Home Instead who took very good care of him in the last years of his life.
