James Lowe Obituary

Lowe, James E.

December 13, 1945 - March 11, 2024

James E. Lowe was born on December 13, 1945 in Forsyth County to the late Leila Handy Lowe and Everette Lowe. He spent his formative years in the Oakwood Community in Wilkes County. After his father passed, he and his mother moved to Winston-Salem as he began high school. He graduated in 1964 in the inaugural class of North Forsyth High school serving as Class President. He entered North Carolina State University where he studied Electrical Engineering, graduating at the top of his class. After graduation, Jim married the love of his life, Ann Westmoreland. They moved to New Jersey where he worked for Bell Labs while getting his master's degree from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute.

In 1971, James and Ann returned to NC to operate Hill Haven Lodge rest home which became Vienna Village Assisted Living in 1982. Over his 50-year career with Vienna Village, he is remembered fondly by hundreds of families that have trusted us with their loved ones.

Jim served his community for many years volunteering in various capacities. He served on the Salem College Board of Trustees, Vienna Volunteer Fire Department Board of Directors, Lewisville Town Planning Board, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utility Commission (Vice-Chair), and various Moravian church boards. Although raised a Baptist, Jim became a Moravian in 1985 and was a member of Olivet, Home, and Calvary Moravian.

Jim will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who always cherished time with family and friends. He seemed to never meet a stranger and was known for interviewing each new person he met. During his career, he worked with vendors and subcontractors and provided encouragement to many just starting out. He will be remembered as believing in people and demanding the best out of each of them. He was always encouraging the value of hard work and education. He had a special gift working with aging adults and people struggling with health challenges, as he did for the last 15 years of his life.

Losing a long-battle with cancer, James entered the more immediate presence of our Lord on March 11, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Ann, daughter, Heather Parker (Chris), and grandchildren, Victoria and Jacob.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Duke Hospital, especially Dr. Fortin, Dr. Glower, Dr. Riedel, Dr. Harrison and Dr. John Weathers locally for their kindness and care and Mountain Valley Hospice for support during his last days.

A graveside burial service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 11 a.m. at God's Acre, the Salem Moravian Graveyard with Rev. Chaz Snider and the Rt. Rev. Wayne Burkette officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's memory to the Lowe-Westmoreland Scholarship Fund, Salem College, 601 S. Church Street, Winston-Salem, N. C. 27101. Condolences may be sent online at www.salemfh.com

I Last Saw You Both, Spending more than an hour with him last in Late November 2019
Jimmy Left an Indelible Mark on my Character & Work Ethic, I told him that day that the thing´s that he taught me, I was incredibly thankful for, and that only as a perfectionist tried to take it to another level and everything that I did.
I wish I had known before today, but know that I will be praying for you today for God`s strength and direction.
I´ve prayed for him many times and will never forget the lowe family, his mother, your father, you Jim, and Heather & Now Chris
I hope that all the strength that you need you will find in the Lord Jesus Christ !
Thank You & God Bless You All in Ways You Can´t Even Express...
