Jerry Vaden Obituary

Mr. Jerry Lee Vaden, 62, passed away Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Stokes County to Harry Lee and Gradie Cardwell Vaden. Mr. Vaden traveled as an international cost analyst and retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 35 years of service. He attended River Oaks Community Church. Mr. Vaden was a member of the Central YMCA and also loved gourmet cooking. He was a loving and compassionate husband, son, father, grandfather and friend. Mr. Vaden was preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his wife, Jamie Vaden of the home; his father, Harry Lee Vaden; a daughter, Shawn Carpenter and husband Tim; a stepdaughter, Shannon Mitchell and husband Jeff; a stepson, Mike Dillon and wife Tina; six grandchildren; four uncles, Louis Vaden, Jessie Cardwell, Marion Vaden and Lenzy Vaden; and five aunts, Lois George, Margaret Vaden, Lolean Vaden, Edith Vaden and Frances Vaden. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 31, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Pastor David Beaty officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

Jerry was a fine collegue and a good friend. For me it was a privilege to work with him for many years. It was always a pleasure to meet him, either in Winston-Salem, in Geneva or in Cologne. Jerry will be missed by those of who had the honor and pleasure to work with him. All of his finance collegues who were touched by him at either RJR or JTI will miss his knowledge and council. My deepest sympathy to you and the rest of Jerry's family. We spoke only a few short weeks ago and discussed getting together next time he came to Duke for treatment. When I first joined RJR Tobacco International Jerry became a great friend.
