Dr. John Gerald Albertini

Dr. John Gerald Albertini, 57 of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away on January 17, 2025 after fighting cancer and the effects of treatment over a five year period with deep courage and abounding grace. He was surrounded by over two dozen loved ones – a testament to a life well lived. His enduring story was his love for his family and living a life of integrity and generosity with a healthy dose of humor.

John matched his passion for family with extraordinary devotion to his profession as a Mohs surgeon. He was nationally recognized as a gifted physician and leader, advocating for quality health care and an environment that enabled professional growth and learning. John always put the patient first.

After graduating with honors from his beloved alma-mater, the University of Notre Dame, John earned his medical degree from the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago. Following his residency and fellowship, John served in the United States Air Force in San Antonio. He recently served as President of the American College of Mohs Surgery.

John was a beloved husband to Laurie, who he described simply as "my person". Their bond of over 30 years of marriage is a model of devotion, support, shared values, and the ability to laugh and love deeply. They traveled the world together but were equally happy on the sofa with their children watching a movie.

As an incredible Dad to Christian, Erin and Anna, John instilled lifelong lessons including " It takes a village - remember to value everyone's contribution to the whole, no matter how minor it may seem" and "If money can solve your problems, you don't have problems". He was a life coach for them as well as their greatest cheerleader.

John is survived by his wife Dr. Laurie (Wong) Albertini, three children Christian John, Erin Marie, and Anna Wong Albertini, his parents Dr. Robert and Louise Albertini, his siblings and their spouses Robert Jr. and Susan Albertini, Kathryn (Albertini) and Christopher Weismantel, and Michael and Robyn Albertini, his in-laws Manford and Wanda Wong, Andrea Wong, Drs. Wendy and Michael Lee, Drs. Jeffrey and Jimiann Wong, Gregory and Jennifer Wong, 20 nieces and nephews, and his best friends Dr. Jeffrey and Kathy Miller.

Mostly we will miss his smile. He was simply the best.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Winston Salem on Friday, February 14 at 10 a.m. followed by a reception at Forsyth Country Club. John's family wishes to thank the dedicated and caring team at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist.

I am so sorry to hear of dr. A pass. He has removed several places on me in the last few years. Always the best. I would talk to him though each surgery the entire time. I think I ask him everything about everything. What a great pleasure to had had him for a dr. And friend. Lee mills

Our condolences to the Family. Dr. Albertini had performed Mohs surgery on me several times over the last 10 years, always the best results. As retired military I had great respect for him and his military service as well as his medical abilities.

Dr Albertini was the best Mohs surgeon. He removed skin cancer from my face several years ago, removing a part of my nose the size of a quarter and one on my forehead and I don´t even have a scare. Such a wonderful Dr. and gone too soon. Praying for his family.

He begin with me as a patient. My confidence in him was total. Watching him evaluate my next surgery was awesome. He buried scars in natural lines and creases. I will miss him terrible.
