John Dillard Obituary

Dillard, Jr., John Talmadge

October 19, 1946 - September 10, 2023

John Talmadge Dillard, Jr., peacefully died in his sleep on Sunday, September 10, 2023. John was born on October 19, 1946 in Wilkes Co. to the late Reba and John T. Dillard Sr. Mr. Dillard graduated from North Forsyth High School in 1965. John was a proud lifetime Pirate graduating from of East Carolina University, where he majored in Business Management. Rarely was John seen not sporting his Pirate purple and gold. When not on the golf course, John found time to work in sales at Parrish Tire for over 30 years.

He was a long-time member of AA; he would have received his 29 year chip this month. John was a pillar of that brave community, sponsoring, mentoring, and loving more people than numbers can count. He was always so proud to tell his story and learn from the stories of others.

John's greatest joy was being a dad to his son Jay, and owner of his best given title of Grandpa John to his 13 year old grandson, Nash.

John is survived by his son, John "Jay" T. Dillard III and his wife Elizabeth, grandson, Nash Dillard, sister; Barbara D. Rothrock (Robert) of Elkin, and nephews; Craig Rothrock (Ann) and Tim Rothrock (Kathy).

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Salem Funeral Home, 2951 Reynolda Rd., Winston-Salem, NC, 27106. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, September 14 at 11 a.m. at Parkway Presbyterian Church, 1000 Yorkshire Rd., Winston-Salem, NC, 27106.
