John Duggins Obituary

DUGGINS Mr. John Robert Duggins Sr. of Winston-Salem died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Duggins was born Sept. 27, 1923, in Forsyth County, a son of the late Samuel Duggins and the late Eula Light Duggins. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving on the USS Cooner in the Atlantic Fleet during World War II. In 1989, he retired from Piedmont Airlines and was a member of the Piedmont Retiree Club. When Mr. Duggins was a child, his mother and father died, leaving him to be raised by his loving aunt and uncle, the late Jerry and Nannie Hicks. In addition to his parents; and aunt and uncle; he was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Marie Wilson Duggins, in 2003; and a sister, Wanda Snyder. He is survived by his children, Toni Windisch and husband Bill; Brenda Sands; and John Duggins Jr. and wife Vicki; grandchildren Shane Reed and Eric Cushing, Julie Cottingham, Katie Sands and Jonathan Duggins, and a great-granddaughter, Courtney Roten. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, at Gardens of Memory, with the Rev. Herbert Wilson officiating. Military honors will be provided by VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer' s Association, 1315 Ashleybrook Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27013. (Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel)
