John Flack Obituary
FLACK JAMESTOWN - Mr. John Thomas Flack died Thursday, April 3, 2008, at the Select Specialty Unit at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem. Born in Shelbyville, Ky., he moved to this area from Frederick, Md. Mr. Flack retired from the U.S. Army with 22½years of honorable and dedicated service to his country, serving in Korea, Vietnam and Campaign Dominican Republic. He was also a police officer in Maryland for 17 years. Mr. Flack served on the Christian Citizenship Committee of Piedmont Baptist Association and worked actively with Sen. Burr, Sen. Dole and Rep. Coble on issues for the Veteran Administration and other political issues, including those relating to immigration. Preceding him in death were his parents, James William and Ruby Lee (Arnold) Flack; and son Bernd Flack. Surviving family includes his wife, Sylvia DeFriece Flack of Jamestown; first cousins Bobbye Ann Byreside and Jimmy and Vicki Graybeal, all of Shelbyville, Ky.; second cousins Teresa Hesselbrock of Fairfield, Ohio; Clay Byreside of Shelbyville; Eddie Graybeal of Nashville, Tenn.; and Stephanie Cayner of Purtell, Okla.; stepchildren Donald Holliday of Columbia, Md.; Janice McCort of Raleigh; Frank Holliday of Potomac, Md.; and Denise Wade of Annandale, Va.; 14 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; mother-in-law Jessie DeFriece of Boonsboro, Md.; brothers-in-law Clifford DeFriece of Johnstown, Pa.; David DeFriece of Chino Valley, Ariz.; and Maynard DeFriece of Onolaska, Wash.; and sister-in-law Norma Gray of Middletown, Md. A chapel funeral service celebrating his life, will be conducted at 4 p.m. today, April 7, at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, Sedgefield Chapel, Greensboro, with Pastor Buford R. Smith, Colfax Baptist Church, officiating. Burial with full military honors, will take place at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Frederick, Md. The family will visit with their friends from 3 p.m. until service time today, April 7, at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel.
