John Hardy Obituary

John Hardy

Jun 30, 1934 - Sep 27, 2025

Mr. John W. Hardy, 91, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2025. He was born June 30, 1934, to the late Sollie and Mary Hardy and had been a resident of this area all his life. He was faithful member of Marshall Baptist Church. John graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in 1953. He was a retired employee of Piedmont Publishing Company, Winston-Salem Journal newspaper with 40 years of service. At his retirement, he was the Press/Plate making Manager and Day Production Coordinator. Prior to starting full-time employment, John had worked part-time in different positions at the Journal. In addition, he served his country for 14 years in the United States National Guard. His father retired from the Journal with 45 years of service. Their employment had ten years of overlapping time and when the newspaper celebrated its 100-year anniversary, they had a combined service of 75 of those years. John's hobbies included a lifelong love for woodworking, square dancing, and family style camping. After his retirement in 1995, he and his wife traveled in excess of 200,000 miles by motor home over the next 20 years. During this time, they spent their winters in Florida and the better of their summers at Myrtle Beach. He was a 40-year member of Holiday Rambler RV Club; he and his wife served as International Rally Coordinators and organized RV Rallies throughout the Eastern and Central areas of the United States. John served as a member of the 2006-2010 Board of Directors and as the International President of HRRVC 2009-2010. Over the years, John also served as President of the member of civil and fraternity organization, including the White Rock Civic Club and Mineral Springs Little League. Early in his work career he served as President of Winston-Salem Central Labor Union and Vice President of the NC State AFL-CIO. John also served on the Winston-Salem Transit Authority from 1971-1977. He served as the President of the Winston-Salem Credit Union from 1987-1995. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Patsy Hardy Kimel. He is survived by the love of his life of 69 years, Bonnie Crews Hardy; three sons, Steve (Ann), Mike, and Jay Worth; five grandchildren, Ashley Carnicelli (Mike), Tyler Hardy, Morgan McCarty (Hunter), Mason, and Ryan Hardy; great-grandson, Jordan Carnicelli; and nephew, Benny Kimel.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Marshall Baptist Church with Pastor John Holmes officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
