Dear Frances,
Know that I have been thinking about you and your family over the last week. I just feel so fortunate that I was able to connect with both you and Joe at Christmas time in Indio. We had a great time and I got to see firsthand why so many people think the world of you and Joe. I will always treasure the time that he and I spent playing golf, tennis, and just talking. He was a gem and I know his spirit will live on in all who had the opportunity to meet him. I wish you and your family the best in this time of transition. Love, Rebecca

Thanks to our mutual friend Jim Oates of Winston Salem, I have been made aware of your loss. Joe Rowell was such a positive force in my Dillard Paper career, and others will say the same. Each time I visited in Bristol to introduce new product lines or call upon customers as the "mucketey muck from the home office", Joe Rowell made me welcome and demonstrated why he was so successful in his career.
Joe always offered me encouragement, even after I became president of the company. I was always able to access his experience and knowledge and he was
an invaluable role model for all our people who sought success in life and work. Good organizations value the impact of people like Joe Rowell upon the lives of their people, be it on the family side or working side of life. Joe's example was positive for us all.
Please give my regards to David in particular, and I would love to hear from him. I have him and his family in my thoughts and prayers.

Mrs. Rowell and family,
I was saddened to hear of Joe's passing and your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers. I first met Joe about 30 years ago and enjoyed working with him while I was a buyer at Hoover in Erwin and also at Plus Mark in Greeneville. I always enjoyed our visits. He wasn't making a "sales call", he was visiting his friends. I consider it an honor and privilege to call him my friend. He was always the perfect gentleman. He will be missed. God bless and comfort you during this time.
