Joshua Smith Obituary

SMITH WINSTON-SALEM Joshua Ryan Smith, 20, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2011. Joshua was born June 19, 1990 in Whiteville, NC to Roger and Sheila Strader Smith. He was a loving son and younger brother who never grew out of saying 'I Love you' every night and wanting to hear his mother and daddy say 'I Love You'. Joshua had a magnetic smile and personality with dancing blue eyes. He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed working on the farm with his grandparents, family vacations, camping, hiking and visiting Sunset Beach. He loved all of his family and loved being the center of their attention. They all loved him and will forever miss his pranking wit, his bear hugs and the sound of his laughter. Joshua was loved by all he came into contact with, but was challenged in saying 'no' to the dangers of this world. He had many dreams of things he wanted to do in this world but his time here with us was and has been too short. He is now with our heavenly Father who has placed him in a safe place in Heaven. "Joshua, we love you and will always wait for the day we are together again. HUG AROUND THE NECK, A BUSHEL AND A PECK." "LOVE YOU BRO" Surviving are his parents, Roger and Sheila; a brother, Justin Smith; grandparents, Harvey & Margaret Smith, of Julian, NC and Harold & Mildred Strader, of Julian, NC; and all his aunts, uncles and their families. A Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Roger Gilbert officiating and Tom Calhoun providing the memorial message. Burial will follow at Gilmore Memorial Park (Julian, NC). The family will receive friends Saturday, March 5, from 3 5 p.m. at the Church. Memorials may be made to Forsyth Jail & Prison Ministries, P. O. Box 11802, Winston-Salem, NC, 27116 or On Wings like a Dove, P. O. Box 557, Clemmons, NC 27012. "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; They will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31

The Smith family, I don't really know your family well and have only had a glimpse into your lives over the past few years while carrying your mail, but I do know the love of a parent and can only imagine what a terrible loss you have suffered. I am truly sorry for the loss of your beautiful young man. I can certainly feel the love you have for him through the words you have written about him. And as I have seen in the past and see now your family is definitely loved by many who have sent cards expressing their concern and caring. I certainly want you to know that I too will keep your family and Josh in my prayers.

While at Triad Academy, Josh was a bright light with a million dollar smile and unforgettable twinkling eyes. He always looked like he was up to something; who could resist that? He was an incredibly likeable young man. His light was extinguished far too soon for any of us to bear and he will be sorely missed. God is holding him in the palm of His hand and the angels are healing Josh's soul. This is of great comfort.

In love and In Christ,
