Kathy Speas Obituary

Kathy Jane Speas

Sep 8, 1960 - Sep 17, 2025

Kathy Jane Speas, 65, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. Kathy was, and is, a bright light in so many people's lives. She had a constant smile that could light up a room and could cajole even the most reluctant person to return it. There were no strangers in Kathy's life. After about five minutes with her, she knew your name, your kids' names, your dog's name, and what you were having for dinner. And most importantly, she knew where you went to school. If you went to UNC you got extra points. If you went to Duke, she loved you anyway. She remembered all of it, too. People mattered to her. It would be difficult to exaggerate the example she gave every day of her life of Christian love and compassion. She clearly had many obstacles to overcome, but she radiated love throughout. She always said that Jesus was her guide, so it was easy. God bless her sweet soul. We will miss her.

Kathy was born on September 8, 1960, and lived in Rural Hall her whole life. She graduated from North Forsyth High School and worked as a cashier at Harris Teeter until 2015 when illness forced her to retire.

Kathy leaves behind brother, Jeff and wife Terry nephews, Adam (Michele), Isaiah (Jennifer), Aaron (Katelynn), and Sarah (Joe). Also there are grand-nephews, Brody, Jonah, Evan, and Jason, grand-nieces, Lydia and Hannah. There are also many cousins and their spouses and children, hundreds of friends and thousands of people she hadn't met yet who would have been friends.

The celebration of Kathy's life will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 21st at Mizpah Moravian Church in Rural Hall. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at Mizpah Moravian Church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials in Kathy's name can be made to: Mizpah Moravian Church, 3165 Mizpah Church Rd., Rural Hall, NC 27045. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.

What an extraordinary person Kathy was....always smiling and so friendly. She never failed to greet me by name, ask about her special Dr. Jim, and ask about our daughters by name. She was a bright light and we will always remember her.
