Troxell, Kyle Evan

August 25, 1956 - October 18, 2023

Kyle Evan Troxell, 67, of Winston-Salem, N.C. passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023. Kyle was preceded in death by his parents Lyman Ray Troxell and Charlotte Wilson Troxell and two brothers, Marcus Troxell and Bruce Troxell. He is survived by his wife, Annie, his sons, Chase Troxell (Clara) and Will Troxell, his sister, Amy Walton (Steve), and seven nieces and nephews.

Kyle grew up in Winston-Salem where he attended Summit School and RJ Reynolds High School. He received his undergraduate degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and his masters in architecture at NC State. Kyle loved his work as an architect and the relationships he formed within his profession.

Throughout his life Kyle enjoyed many hobbies including camping, fishing, carpentry, skiing, model trains, motorcycle riding, landscaping, the Tarheels, and most recently, building stone walls. He was a lifelong learner who enjoyed reading, especially about history. He enjoyed going to concerts and movies with his sons.

Kyle loved his family, friends, and coworkers. He had a strong moral compass and always took the high road. He was passionate in everything he did. He was fiercely supportive and protective of all that he loved. Most of all Kyle will be remembered for the love he had for his wife and children. We miss you Kyle.

I knew Kyle @ UNC, when I dated a friend of his. He was a true gentleman, and I enjoyed his company. Although we lost touch after college, I remember him fondly. My sincere condolences to his family and friends, from Mary Ayers in Chapel Hill.

I´m so grateful to have met Kyle in high school as a new transplant just moved to town. He was welcoming, friendly, kind and open. Our friendship continued through overlapping college years and many mutual friends in Chapel Hill. I especially loved his smile and laugh; when I thought of Kyle over the intervening years, sunshine always came to mind. Just a shining light, a bright soul. Gone much too soon.
Thank you Will for sharing my photographs of 16 year old Kyle with the unforgettable smile. My deepest condolences to Annie and the family.

I knew Kyle from our high school days and always enjoyed meeting up with Annie and him in the decades that followed. I valued his friendship and admired him as a warm generous soul who loved to share a laugh. I never heard him speak an unkind word. In times of grief for departed loved ones I've struggled to find consolation. This quote from Thornton Wilder was a comfort to me; may it be so to you: "There is a land of the living and a land of the dead and the bridge is love, the only survival, the only meaning."

While I was deeply saddened to hear of Kyle´s untimely death I found solace in reading about the loving and productive life he and Annie were so lucky to share. I hope the outpouring of love and support from all they have so graciously touched will provide comfort for Annie, Will and Chase during these difficult times.

Kyle was my pal through high school and the times we would see each other after those days, it was as if no time had passed at all. I very fondly remember our adventures often, and his laugh, his honesty, and his refusal to put up with injustice. We shared a lot and I will always cherish our friendship. Much love and peace to Annie and the family in this difficult time.

My condolences to the family. I am Jimmy Adams and my brother is Bobby Adams and we lived on Westleylan Lane and the Troxell's lived on Monticello so we could see their home. We moved there in 1956 and moved about 1966 so we played with all the children. I am very happy to hear that Kyle had a full enjoyable life. I was R.J. Reynolds class of 1969.

I don´t even know what to say...I loved Kyle and Annie and all our dear friends in Chapel Hill. What a grand time we had...Kyle and I often ended up singing to each other, sometimes while standing on chairs. He was crazy about Annie, that´s for sure. I will miss him forever.

Kyle brought light and laughter to our office. He made everyone feel seen and known even in the smallest of interactions. He was truly one of the most selfless and giving men I knew and I looked up to him and his ability to put life and work into perspective. Kyle will continue to live on in our hearts at LAMBERT as we continue to share memories and laughter of the wonderful times we had with him. What a truly remarkable man who leaves behind a legacy across the state, as well as very large shoes to fill. My sincerest condolences to Annie, Chase, Clara, and Will.

I never had a moment with Kyle where it was not a fun or very nice time. Kyle was always low key, like Mr. Chill, and yet still had a great sense of humor and was great to be around. I'll miss you brother and will do my best to honor your own moral compass of love and maturity. You are at peace now, and that is good. Philip

Hayden Design Associates is so sorry to learn about Kyle's passing. We provided commercial interior design services with Kyle, Ray and Bruce on projects over many years. Kyle, like his Dad was a creative and thoughtful architect. He was so pleasant to work with and was a true professional. Chase and my daughter were in school together at FCDS so it was a treat to see Kyle & Annie at games and events. Our sympathies to the Troxell family. Kyle left his mark on our community with good design and a caring attitude for clients and most importantly, his family & friends.

Kyle was a central part of our circle of friends at Reynolds and then at Carolina. His laugh was inimitable and unforgettable, and I doubt he ever met a stranger. Safe travels. Sending love and condolences to Annie, Chase and Will.

This is hard. Kyle was my roomie for years in Chapel Hill. He really was the brother I never had. I told Annie that the one thing about Kyle that sticks with me is that he didn´t put up with people who were not good humans. I loved that about him. He also turned me on to great music that I hadn´t heard of. Every time I play Who Knows Where The Time Goes by Fairport Convention, I think of Kyle. He loved that band. I wish Annie, Chase, Will and all the family members peace.

So so sorry to hear of Kyle's passing. I went to Paisley Junior High and Reynolds High with him; he was a part of the retinue of high school band Little Diesel; and I was roommates with him in Chapel Hill 77-78. I have such fond memories of Kyle from school, parties, concerts... Farewell old buddy. Much love to Annie, Chase, Will, and all he leaves behind. I'm including a photo of him at Reynolds High in 1973. Thanks to Mary Campbell, photographer.

I'm so sorry to hear of Kyle's passing and send love to Annie and their family. We met at Reynolds High School and much of our friendship revolved around our musician friends. We re-connected in Chapel Hill in the late seventies and shared many fun times, again many of those involving music.

I'm so saddened to hear of Kyle's passing. We spent fun times listening to music at his and his pals' home on "New Wave Road" back during our UNC-CH days in the '70s. I remember Kyle as an easy-going and upbeat guy. I offer my heartfelt condolences to Annie, their children and their extended family and friends.
