Larry Neal Obituary

Neal, Larry Thomas

August 13, 1946 - October 31, 2020

NEAL

WALKERTOWN

Larry Thomas Neal, 74, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday morning, October 31, 2020 at his home.

Larry was born in Forsyth County on August 13, 1946 to the late James Madison and Virginia Bare Neal. He was a wonderful, Godly gentleman who loved life and the people who filled it. One of his passions was teaching. He taught at both Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools and Stokes County Schools for over 40 years; and was honored to be awarded "Teacher of the Year" seven times. Larry was currently the faithful minister of First Christian Church of Walnut Cove and previously pastored Salem Chapel Christian Church, Belews Creek Christian Church, and First Christian Church of Elizabeth City. He was blessed to have baptized numerous individuals and to have joined over 100 couples in matrimony. Larry loved his family passionately and enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in all aspects, whether it was ball games, band concerts or just playing a round of golf. He was intelligent, humorous, giving and will be greatly missed. We should all aspire to be as kind and loving to others as he was and remember his favorite Bible verse, 1 Corinthians 13:13, "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."

Larry is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Joanne Fulp Neal, 2 daughters, Kristie Hauser (Rusty) and Tanya Hill (Billy), 5 grandchildren, Hope Hauser, Hannah Hauser (Corbin Powell, fiancé), Austin Hill (Hannah Spence, fiancée), Billy Hill III, Kristin Gloede, a sister, LuJean Sprinkle (Bill), and aunt, Mary Davis (Bill)

There will be a 3:00 PM Celebration of Life Service held on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at First Christian Church of Walnut Cove with Reverend J.O. Williams officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 PM on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at First Christian Church of Walnut Cove.

Social distancing guidelines will be observed, and facial coverings are encouraged.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Walnut Cove, 1063 N. Main Street, Walnut Cove, NC 27052.

I knew Mr. Neal from Walkertown Elementary. Neither of my daughters were fortunate enough to have him as a teacher, but my nephew did and loved him! I worked with Mr. Neal a lot with the PTA as a volunteer. We also knew him as the Pastor at the church across the street from us (Belews Creek). He was such a kind man and you always knew how much he loved the Lord! If you knew Mr. Neal, you were blessed. All of the family is in our thoughts & prayers.

Larry Neal taught my son in the 5th grade at Walkerton Elementary School. He was the best teacher my son Shawn ever had. My son became interested in studying for the first time. His father was James (Butch) W. Neal,Jr of Belews Creek. Thank you.

I am so sorry to hear Larry passed away. He was a wonderful man, and the children loved him. It was a pleasure to work with him. He always had a quick smile and a kind word. Prayers for his family, and his church family.
