Levi Brunson Obituary

BRUNSON The Rev. Levi N. Brunson was born Nov. 28, 1919, in Aiken, S.C. Levi became ill March 1, 2008, and his health continued to decline. He departed this life Tuesday, April 1, 2008. He was the son of the Rev. Willie B. Brunson and Lillian Nimmons Brunson. Levi was a member of United Progressive Baptist Church. All who loved him called him "Pops." From a family of nine children, he was the fourth son of eight boys and a girl. He retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools as a custodian. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Harold Brunson; a daughter, Elizabeth Brunson Jarrett; and seven brothers, Edward, Tearo, Melvin, Benjamin, James Thomas, Willie Pete and Jesse. Those left to mourn his loss are his wife, Rosa Wilson Brunson; two daughters, Gloria Brunson and Margaret Vigil; a sister, Lillian B. Brown of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four sisters-in-law, Annie Brunson Thompson of Winston-Salem; Sophia Brunson and Loletta Brunson, both of Greensboro; and Evelyn Murphy of Florence, S.C.; four brothers-in-law, Eugene (Barber) Wilson of Pittsfield, Mass.; David Wilson of Greenville, N.C.; George Porcher of Boston, Mass.; and Frank (Shirley) Wilson of Dorchester, Mass.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends. Homegoing services will be held at noon Wednesday, April 9, at United Progressive Baptist Church, with Pastor Lewis Devlin officiating and the Rev. Tony Jarrett, grandson, as the eulogist. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday, April 9, at the church. The family will assemble at 3823 Barkwood Drive, Winston-Salem, en route to the church. To Tony and Family, my prayers, goes out to you. Hold your head up high, we all will meet your grandfather in heaven. So, don't cry just praise GOD, he's happy now, smiling down on all of us. Keep the Faith.
