Linwood Hansley Obituary

HANSLEY WINSTON-SALEM - Linwood Bryant Hansley, 81, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2009. Mr. Hansley was born in Onslow County, near Folkstone, NC, to the late Joseph Daniel and Florence Ottaway Hansley on September 17, 1927. Mr. Hansley was employed for over 30 years at The Bahnson Company. In retirement, he worked as a groundskeeper for the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds. He enjoyed gardening and Bluegrass music. Three brothers, Fred, Hubert, and E.T. Hansley, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Doris Wheeling Hansley; a daughter, Annette Hansley Sipe, and her husband, Randy Sipe, of Grimesland, NC; a son, John Bryant Hansley, and his girlfriend, Rhoda Ryder, of Winston-Salem; and a grandson, Peter Wilson Blum, IV, of Boone, NC. He is also survived by a sister, Lela Mae Gurganus, of Jacksonville, NC; two brothers, Marvin F. Hansley, Sr. and Norman P. Hansley, both of Winston-Salem; and many other remaining family and friends. A Moravian Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, officiated by the Rt. Rev. Lane A. Sapp. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Moravian Church, Immanuel-New Eden Moravian Church or Hospice & Palliative CareCenter.
