ELKIN - Mrs. Lorene Wright Wolfe Mathis, 81, of Lyles Street passed away Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Britthaven. Mrs. Mathis was born Jan. 13, 1923, in Surry County to Walter and Mary Elizabeth Reece Wright. Mrs. Mathis was a homemaker and a member of Jonesville United Methodist Church. She was the first librarian at Jonesville Public Library in 1961. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Roger Wolfe Sr. Survivors include a son, Jim Wolfe and wife Cheryl of Elkin; two daughters, Dr. Judith Wolfe of Hickory and Anne Wolfe Mastin of Roaring River; a brother, Wesley Wright of Martinez, Calif.; a sister, Virginia Hutchens of Daytona Beach, Fla.; a half sister, Connie Triplett of Elkin; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Monroe Huffman. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Suite 999, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Mathis family.
