Lucy Broome Obituary

BROOME WALNUT COVE - Lucy Loretta Hairston Broome, departed this life on Monday evening, January 24, 2011. She was born on December 3, 1940 to the late Sabe and Judy Welch Hairston in Walnut Cove, NC. She successfully completed her high school education at London High School in Walnut Cove in 1959. She continued education endeavors at Winston-Salem State University where she studied to become a teacher. Afterwards, she served as a preschool teacher with the Stokes County Head Start Program. She was later employed with RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co. for over ten years. She gave her life to Christ at an early age at New London Primitive Baptist Church in Walnut Cove. She later became a member of Pine Hall Baptist Church in Pine Hall, NC where she attended until her health began to decline. Waiting to greet her are her father, mother, four brothers, two sisters and a number of other relatives that preceded her in passing. She leaves to cherish her memory: a son, Anthony L. Broome (Patricia) of Walnut Cove; daughter, Brooksie Ann Broome of Greensboro; step-grandson, Brandon Carter of Stoneville; two brothers, George Hairston, Sr. (Frances) of Walnut Cove, Ernest Hairston (Dorothy) of Ocean Pine, MD; three sisters-in-law, Elizabeth, Margie and Mildred Hairston; and a multitude of relatives and friends who loved and will miss her dearly. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Pine Hall Baptist Church in Pine Hall. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Walnut Cove. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church. Online condolences may be made at www.perry-spencerfuneralhome.com.
