Margaret Cooke Obituary

Cooke, Margaret Elizabeth Pike

April 2, 1937 - November 8, 2022

Margaret Elizabeth Pike Cooke, 85, of Winston-Salem, NC, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, after a brave battle against dementia and its debilitating effects. Margaret, affectionately known as "Billie" in younger days, was born on April 2, 1937, to the late Luther Pike and Ola Carter. When Luther left the home shortly thereafter, Margaret and her sister Ruth Mathis were blessed when Floyd E. Tobler married Ola in 1944. Margaret attended Gray High School, then married her husband Harry P. Cooke, who preceded her in death in 2003. Margaret worked for Hanes Hosiery and eventually Sara Lee Hosiery from 1955 until her retirement at the age of 62. She was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church and was involved in their children's ministry and nursing home ministry. Along with her sister, Ruth "Corkey" Mathis, Margaret is survived by her three children, Brenda Bovender of Kernersville, NC, Randy Cooke (Karen) of Midway, NC, and Bruce Cooke (Sharon) of Advance, NC. Left with wonderful memories of their Nanny are her four grandchildren, Kristen, Meghan, Brandon, and Carter; and six great-grandchildren. The family also recognizes her special cousin, Mrs. Jean Goforth and Jean's late husband, Vernon. Margaret's family will receive friends Saturday, November 12, 2022, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek, with Pastor Jim Bush officiating. A funeral service will immediately follow in the Chapel at 2 p.m. Burial will follow on Monday, November 14, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Parklawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Brookdale Alzheimer's Foundation, 275 S. Peace Haven Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27104. I use to sit with Margaret at Grace Baptist church years ago. She was a sweet lady. Then when I went into independent living a Heritage Woods she was living there and we were reacquainted. She loved her family and always talked about them. (She knows where she now) and that is with Jesus. Thinking about the family and you are in my prayers. Skip Cain

Margaret was a quiet, pleasant and very likably person. We sat together at a table with other friends during meals at Herrigewoods . I loved to listen to her stories from times in the church. She seemed to love the Church and her class she spoke of often. We really missed her after she moved. Dorothy Lane
