NEW BERN - Mrs. Margaret Britt Keel, formerly of Winston-Salem, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, in New Bern after a short illness. Mrs. Keel was born May 12, 1931, in Durham to Leonard Reginald Britt and Pearl Phelps Britt. She graduated from Salem College in 1954 with a degree in education and a minor in music. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church where she served as a Stephen minister. She was also active in the choir at Reynolda Presbyterian Church. After moving to New Bern in 1998, she was an associate member of Centenary Methodist Church and active in several prayer and Bible study groups. While in Winston-Salem she was a sustaining member of the Winston-Salem Junior League. Mrs. Keel is survived by her husband, Frank G.H. Keel Sr.; her son and daughter-in-law, Frank G.H. Keel Jr. and Kimberly Flint Keel; her daughter and fiance, Margaret Keel Farmer and James C. Richmond; her four grandchildren, Meghan Elizabeth Farmer, Aaron Samuel Farmer, Jonathan Matthew Keel and Anna Grace Keel; and her two stepgrandchildren, Laura Ashley Carpenter and Aaron Michael Carpenter. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Britt Ballard and Marion Hayes Ballard; her nephews, Dr. Paul H. Ballard and wife Libby and their children, Matthew and Lauren and Mr. Clark R. Ballard and wife Jill and their children, Evan and Emily; and her cousins, Will Hardy and Sandy Britt, Jack and Sue Perkins, Jim and Annie Ruth Perkins, the Rev. Elizabeth Britt Hunt, Bill and Peggy Britt, Bob and Susan Britt and Clyde and Mary Mac Britt. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2, at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel in Winston-Salem. Dr. Paul Ballard will officiate. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the Mausoleum Chapel at Forsyth Memorial Park immediately following the interment. Memorials may be made in honor of Matthew Ballard to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, Bethesda, MD 20814.
