Echols, Marjorie Smith

February 10, 1941 - May 25, 2021

Marjorie Echols, 80, passed away in Winston-Salem, NC on May 25th, 2021. Born in W. Carteret, NC to Elmo F. Smith and Macie Mann Smith, she is remembered by family and friends as patient, kind, loving, generous of spirit and always willing to help.

She is survived by: daughter, Linda Rubin of Winston-Salem; son David Rubin, daughter-in-law Stephanie, and grandsons Ethan and Nicholas of Montpelier, VT; son Kenneth Rubin and grandsons Nathan and Noah of Naples, FL; sister, Sheila Purifoy of Newport, NC; brother Ronald Smith and his wife, Katherine, of Dothan, AL; brother Michael Smith and his wife, Carolyn, of Floyd, VA; and dozens of nieces, nephews and grand-nieces/nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: brothers, Joseph and Timothy Smith; sister, Della Smith; and granddaughter Alexis Rubin-Moore.

Brought up on the family farm, she was married twice and raised a family in CT, where she enjoyed a career in nursing. She was passionate about art, which she pursued as both practitioner and entrepreneur, and was involved in several charitable organizations. She returned to NC later in life, working part time at a library and enjoying friends and family.

She would do anything for family, worked hard to make a difference, and touched many lives. She is missed by family and friends who will always love her. Donations may be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society.
