I not only lost my brother-in-law, i lost my little brother. No matter what was bothering me, or even what time of the day or night it was, i could always call him up, and he'd ease my pain away with his warm words. He always was coming in Fod Lion where i worked, checking on me to see how i was doing, and he'd never leave until he said, sis come give me a hug and let me tell you i love you before i go. I'll always be looking around while i'm working to see if he's there, and i know he'll never walk in again. We had a very special relatinship, that in my lifetime, doesn't come around everyday. I'll miss him, his words, smile and laugh. Gilda (sis)

And time waits for no one, and it won't wait for me
(M. Jagger/K. Richards) circa 1974

Dear Lauren,
We haven’t met face to face but I remember talking to you on the telephone 14 months or so ago. My name is Bill Dowe. I can remember how impressed I was with your kindness and sincerity in helping me track down a mutual friend of mine and your Dad’s. I was looking for David Stewart who was staying with you and your Dad for awhile then. You told me he wasn’t in at the time and told me to hang on and you would look his number up for me, which you did without haste. I asked Dave about you and he filled me in on you, on about how together and mature you were for your age. He told me you were the “apple” of your Daddy’s eye. I know Mitch was proud of you.
Your Dad was introduced to me back in the mid-eighties by Darrin Young and Dave Stewart. I was starting a Band and we needed a Bass Player and your Dad showed up to practice one night and he just “blew” us all away not only with his presence and humor but also with his playing and his heart. Your Dad stuck around with us for close to 3 years, 3 times a week in my Dad’s garage helping to perfect our sound as the “Quick Image Band”. Along with Darrin and Dave, there was Tony Sealey, Mike Jacobs (Jake), Laura Bond and myself. All the practicing paid off and we had a very hot and successful band for a time until it all came to an end in the late 80’s. Your Dad was awesome on stage! He danced, he laughed, and he made some of the best faces that would always make us laugh if any of us were down. He always had a joke and I loved being around him.
Our band drifted apart and we all took different roads for awhile. Your Dad continued racing and we stayed in contact through the grapevine so to speak. I joined up with a Blues Band that needed a bassist but I didn’t have one at the time. Your Dad caught wind of this and he called me and said I could borrow his because he was devoting more time to his love of racing. He said to hold onto his bass until I got my own. I had his bass for 6 months before I got my own. He never called me once to inquire about it. He knew he could trust me. When I got my own, I called your Dad and told him and we got together and talked music, joked and I thanked him for giving me the chance to study before I invested. What your Dad did was a huge help for me and I’ll never forget it.
Time moved on but I always ran into someone who had a story about your Dad. Our paths crossed again and we shared the stage as Quick Image once again for a Benefit for Laura Bond. Seeing and playing with your Dad again was like never missing a beat at all in the 8 years in-between. Nothing changed at all. We played tight that night and again, your Dad was awesome!
Lauren, your Dad will be missed but not forgotten. He has left his impact on everyone who has ever met him. He was a true soul and an honest and caring man to all. It’s not fair how he left us but he’s gone. There’s never a guarantee in the game of life. We can only learn to play the hand that is dealt. You’ve been tested like no other I have known and my heart goes out to you little one but knowing the strength your Dad had in himself through good times and bad times, I know that strength has been passed to you and that strength or faith is what will help you get through this difficult time. I felt your strength in the short time speaking with you. We’re all here for a moment and I believe that our jobs in that moment is to live, love, prosper and take the negatives with the positives and to carry on till we die and to have faith which means For All I Trust Him. He, (God) will see you through. There are reasons for an early exit and I believe that one day, we will All understand Why.
Lauren, you will never be alone. Educate yourself and ask questions and seek the right answers make your Mom and Dad as well as your whole family proud even more proud of what they are of you today. If things get tough for you, try what I do, talk to God. I’m 53 and it works. One last thing, when we die, we go into the minds and hearts of all and the one that dies lives on forever!

Respectfully and Sincerely

Stimpson fan Fan of racing

I wish there was some way
I could have said goodbye.
The thought of him runs through
my head as I look up in the sky.

Knowing he is looking down on us
with a smile on his face,
remembering the life he lived before
he left this place.

If his life didn't end so quick
he would have gotten far.
Only if he had chosen
not to get into that car.

So as I end this poem I want you
to remember this:

Live your life to the fullest
because it could end real fast.
Base your life on the future,
but keep memories of the past.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Stimpson family mitchell will always be missed Bowman gray will never be the same.he will truley be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family.

Lauren, and the Stimpson Family: there are no words that anyone can say or anything anyone can do to take away your heartache and pain. I dont know how much any one family can endure, but i do know that God is Great, and Mighty, and His Grace will see you through the darkest hours. His will is not always our will. Its so hard not to keep asking why, and theres no answer that will make it any easier right now. But God has a master plan, and we just have to trust knowing He will never forsake us.. My husband, Bobby, and I talked to to Mitch last at Justin's memorial service. he gave me his ususal hug, then he grabbed and held onto Bobby, and they both cried, saying it just wasnt right to bury your children. Mitch had a heart as big as the heavens, and i truly believe he will be watching over you all with God leading the way. He will be missed by so many and loved and remembered by all who knew him. Lauren, you are the apple of your daddy's eye, and he will always be right there with you. precious memories you will have and no one can take those from you, and how Blessed you are to have had such loving parents. They have instilled the best of morals, love and God in you, and are both so very proud of you. Your daddy never talked to us without us asking how you were and he always had such wonderful things to say. He always worried that he couldnt do enough, and we always assured him his love was enough an he was doing just fine by you. He knew we were just a phone call away if he ever needed anything, and so was he.

To Lauren and Mitch's family, you are all in our thoughts and prayers. May God continue to Bless you, and may He hold you all safely, and lovingly, "Under His Wings", and may His Grace wrap around you like a blanket of love and hold you tightly, during the darkest days, the endless nights, and through the eye of the storms, and may His love shine brightly through you in the days ahead, and rest assured, this is not the end, you will meet again, in the morning on the shore's of heaven, where there is promised no more sorrow, nor more pain, and no more tears. We Love you dearly...God Bless You...

I am so sorry for your loss and mine. Mitchell was a wonderful person and a great friend. No matter what, he was always there if I needed him. We really became close when we lost Jimmy. I went with him to Jimmy's graveside so he could play Simple Man on the guitar. He had been teaching Jimmy to play. Bowman Gray will never be the same. When Kevin first began to race, Mitchell was the only one at the track that would help him, no matter how many wrecks he had caused the week before. We also shared a love for old Trans Ams. He would call me every once in a while just to see if I was ready to sell mine. I will never be able to replace his friendship! Please now how much he was loved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

The loss of Mitchell will truly cause a large whole is so many lives. He loved his family very much and all of his many, many friends. He had a big heart and would have helped anyone in need. He was such a comedian. If you were down, Mitchell could always bring you back up and make you smile. I can not count the times that I have laughed and laughed at the stories that my brother Jeff tells of his, Mitchell’s and Jeff Stout’s many adventures growing up. I am honored that I knew him and got to be a small part of all of the fun that they had together. I ran into Mitchell a while back when he stopped to help me after I had car trouble on 421. He didn’t know it was me but stopped anyway to help. That was just the kind of guy he was. We stood there and talked for a while, catching up on things and he was telling me about Lauren and how proud he was of her. He said “I wouldn’t trade her for anything in the world”. My heart goes out to Lauren, the entire Stimpson family, the extended family, and to all of his friends who will miss him so much. You have my deepest sympathy. God Bless you all in this time of sorrow.

As I sit here and write this I think of all the times we stayed up on the phone til wee hours of the morning talking about everything from the worlds issues to our daughters and like he always did when he hung up or you left his presence he would say " Love ya". He was such a gentle and loving man. God has received another precious angel. To all Mitchell's family and friends " Love you always"

You are the love of my life and my soul mate. I love you with all of my being and there will never be a day that you are not thought of and loved. The love that you and I shared only comes once in a lifetime, and I will always be grateful that you were in my life.

He was a true friend in deed. Always cared about family and friends. Truly a great fishing buddy that will forever be missed. Laughter was never in short supply when Mitch was around. I have had many a sore Ribs from his jokes and stories. The Lord sure picked a good one this time. God bless Lauren and the Stimpson family.
