Nancy Russell Obituary

Mrs. Nancy Henderson Russell, 72, passed away Monday, July 22, 2024, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born in Iredell County on March 27, 1952, to the late Andrew and Margaret Adcock Henderson. Nancy spent over 30 years in education primarily as first grade teacher for WSFCS. In 1995 she became a student again, earning her master's degree from Wake Forest University and becoming a school counselor. She met Percy Russell, the love her of life, on Yahoo! Personals when she was 51 years young. They enjoyed a beautiful marriage, traveling the world and hosting friends and family at their lake house on High Rock Lake. Nancy was always the happiest when her family was together. Mrs. Russell was a member of Clemmons Moravian Church. Preceding her in death was a brother, Andrew M. Henderson, III. Surviving is her husband, Percy Russell; two daughters, Mary Foster (Mike) of Pfafftown and Katie Hamlin (Brent) of Novato, CA; son, George Whitlatch, Jr. of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Julia Foster and Audrey and Grant Hamlin; three sisters, Maggie Jorgensen, Becky Megerian (Jon), and Dee Dee Henderson-Demory (Jim); several nieces and nephews; special cousins, Jane James, Carol Ryall, and Debbie Brown; also surviving is her brother-in-law, Albert Russell (Mindie) of Advance.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Clemmons Moravian Church with Rev. Christopher C. Thore officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane Winston-Salem, NC 27103. My heart goes out to Nancy's family and loved ones during this difficult time. I graduated from Mooresville Senior High and UNC-Chapel Hill with Nancy, and have known her since Jr. high school. In fact, I knew the entire Henderson family as we grew up together. Nancy's dad was my doctor when I was young. Nancy and I even taught school together briefly at Jefferson Elementary long ago. She was always ready for a fun time, and always had a smile for all. She will be missed, but certainly not forgotten. RIP, Nancy!

Nancy always had a smile on her face and a wit about her. I remember her wearing children´s art on her clothes when she taught at Lewisville Elementary. The children love her! I know she was proud of her school children as well as her biological children. Katie, always remember your mother´s love. My deepest sympathy,
