Paul Hilton Obituary

HILTON THOMASVILLE - Paul Edward Hilton Sr. 85, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, went to meet his Lord at the Hospice Home in High Point on Thursday night, Dec. 20, 2007. He was born on July 16, 1922, in Davidson County to James Vernie Hilton and Alma Grace Vaden Hilton. He spent his whole life in the Hasty community; he saw it transform from tobacco fields to subdivisions. He served with distinction in the Navy during World War II, braving both the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres of war during America' s fight for freedom. He retired as a truck driver for Triad Steel where he always spoke fondly of his time there and the many people whose paths he had crossed on his journeys. Paul never met a stranger; he befriended people everywhere he went. A devout Christian, Paul was a long-serving deacon at Brentwood Baptist Church in High Point. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Melba Inscore Hilton, on April 9, 1994; and a brother, Norman Hilton. Surviving are four children, Brenda Elliott and her husband, Stanley, of Trinity; Paul Edward Hilton Jr. and his wife, Vicki, of Thomasville; Cathie Tew of Midway; and Connie Jacobs and her husband, Jim, of Denton; brothers Bill Hilton of Thomasville; J.C. Hilton of Salisbury; Roy Hilton of Florida; Ray Hilton of High Point; and Don Hilton of Greensboro; sisters Lucille Jones, Kathleen Mabe and Opal Hubbard, all of Thomasville, and Jeanette Crouch of Trinity; five grandchildren, Barri Payne, Heather King, Cliff Tew, Jennifer Jacobs and Justin Jacobs; and great-grandchildren Averie King, Mason King, and Amelia Payne. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, at Brentwood Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Scott and the Rev. Ron Chapman officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park cemetery with full military rites provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Mr. Hilton will remain at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church 30 minutes before the service. The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 22. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262, or Brentwood Baptist Church, 2426 Gordon Road, High Point, NC 27265.
