GREENSBORO - Dr. Richard Mark Fowler IV, 61, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at his residence. Dr. Fowler was born in Atlantic City, N.J., to the late Richard Mark Fowler III and Juanita Skeete Fowler. He was educated at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Md., and Wake Forest Bowman Gray Medical School. He had been in the emergency department at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital since 1975. He loved and lived life to the fullest, was an avid golfer and enjoyed the company of his fellow golfers in the "Smokin' Open" and a good practical joke. He loved traveling and was often intrigued by the latest electronic gadgets. Dr. Fowler was extremely active in his community and was instrumental in the success of the NFL Players for Hospice Celebrity Golf Tournament. He was the recipient of numerous awards and a member of many associations related to his field of medicine. Dr. Fowler was full of positive energy and could brighten any room just by his presence. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Patricia Ryan Fowler; son Richard Mark Fowler V and wife Dawn of Austin, Texas; daughters Monique Fowler of Greensboro, Lauren Douglas and husband Marvin of Jacksonville, N.C., and Hilarie Fowler of Greensboro; grandchildren Makayla and Xavier Douglas, Jiya Fowler, Fouad Mark Hanhan and one on the way; and parents-in-law, Arthur and Patricia Ryan of Winston-Salem. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with the Rev. Frank O'Rourke officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405. Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel is assisting the family.
