Robert Brenner Obituary

Brenner, Robert M. "Bob"

January 12, 1947 - May 28, 2021

On Friday, May 28, 2021, Bob Brenner, adoring husband and loving father of six children and seven grandchildren, passed away at home at the age of 74. Big Bob was born on January 12, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Milton and Betty Brenner. He grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and was a standout athlete, lettering in football, basketball and baseball. He received an invitation from Major League Baseball requesting that he enter the draft, but Bob decided instead to play football for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in Winston-Salem. Bob played tight end for the Demon Deacons and received his Bachelor of Science in 1970. On July 15, 1974, he married the love of his life, Snow Warner Brenner. Bob worked in the furniture industry for 47 years and begrudgingly retired in 2019. Bob loved traveling the state and spending time with his furniture friends and clients. Bob was active in his community, serving as an Elder and a Deacon at Forest Hill Presbyterian Church, teaching Sunday School classes, serving on the Board of the Irish Children's Summer Program, and helping host homeless families from the community. If there was a volunteer opportunity, Bob was your man. Big Bob loved spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren play, telling dirty jokes, cheering on his Demon Deacons and laughing with his family and friends. He was happiest at the beach playing with his family in the sand and waves or in Montreat on the deck overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains. Big Bob loved nothing more than an evening at home playing cards with his family, but you had to watch him closely because he was an expert cheat. Whenever asked how he was doing, he always answered, "Never Better." Bob was known for his easy smile and laughter and his kind, generous and compassionate spirit. Bob was the patriarch of a large extended family and always cried through his prayers and blessings. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Milton Brenner and his mother, Betty Brenner. Big Bob is survived by his wife, Snow Warner Brenner; his six children, Anthony (Jennifer) Brenner- children, Bailey & Avery, Christopher Brenner, Snow (Chris) Daws- children, Snow & Wren, Wich (Ashlee) Brenner- son, Bobby, Dane (Nicki) Brenner- children, Hayes & Ely, and Seth Brenner. Please come share your favorite memories of Bob with the family during a visitation on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Salemtowne Smith-Saal Room (1000 Salemtowne Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106). Was just thinking of my old friend from Jr. and High school days. So sorry to find that he has passed. We started together on the Rogers Jr. High basketball team in the 8th and 9th year. I remember him as a big man with a kind heart. Always a team player, who loved playing sports and was loved by everyone. I am betting he was a great father and grandfather. Miss you Bob !

Dear Snow and family,
My thoughts and prayers have been with you all. I thought I might share with you the two or three memories that I have of Bob when he was a little boy.Now you need to know that Bob is my uncle, even though I am three years older than he. What can I say families families families. I believe he was born in Cincinnati because that´s what I remember of when my grandfather and Betty (my much loved grandmother) were living here in Cincy. Bobbie must´ve been about three or so and I would´ve been six or seven and I remember going over to their house and I remember that Betty would make for us each a gigantic buckwheat pancake. We each had our own. It was of course delightful and surprising. I can still see that huge pancake on my plate! I can´t believe that either of us could eat a whole big pancake but I loved it. As a small aside, in Bob´s honor I made myself a huge pancake and enjoyed it all. Another memory that I have is a picture in my mind of seeing Barb in the lineup before school one morning. My mother and I were living down in Florida and l also attended South Side School. He was in second grade and standing in his line. I was getting to school to get into my line and I saw him there with his class . His classmates came up to about a little above his waist. That is how much taller he was at that time. We didn´t stay any longer than some of that year and went back to Cincinnati. I remember another year and we were both older by I few years. Barb would go in the backyard and climb this really tall tree and he would get up as high as he could and then jump down! I being a girl was very amazed at his feat. He did land on sand but it was a good jump! We played a lot with the neighbors across the street and I just remember good times. Time passed we both got older. I went into the convent and Bobbie went to Wake Forest.
I remember your marriage and you and Bob and I think Anthony riding off for the honeymoon. I would hear about you and your wonderful family when Betty was alive. I was so happy for you all!
My love to all!
Lynda

No matter how old we are, it´s never easy to lose a parent. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you grieve. I never met your dad, but I can tell how wonderful he must have been just by knowing you. We reflect the best parts of our parents thanks to the loving way they raised us. Take comfort in your memories as you grieve.

We all have so many fond memories of Bob and the whole family at all the soccer games and get togethers when our kids were growing up in High Point. Snow, you and your kids are being prayed for and sent much love from all of us. Bob was a true force of nature and we will miss him.

Our memories of Bob will be filled with laughter, love, and friendship. He was always the first one to inquire about the kids, how they were doing and truly taking an interest in everyone. Our "BeeGees" supper club was short-lived but very special. Prayers for the entire Brenner clan!
