Robert Lamp Obituary

Lamp, Robert

1947 - 2022

Robert "Bobby" Russell Lamp, Jr., 75, a self-proclaimed grouch and cool dude of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on July 27, 2022 after an arduous and courageous fight with a rare illness.

Bobby was born on March 1, 1947 in Newark, OH to the late Robert Russell Lamp Sr. and late Doris Rebecca Lamp. Soon after his birth, they relocated to Badin, NC, where it is rumored Bobby spent his childhood terrorizing his brothers. Also in his early years, he enjoyed playing baseball, swimming in Badin Lake, and doing other outdoorsy activities.

After high school, Bobby proudly served in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Following his time as a US Marine, Bobby graduated from UNC-Charlotte with a B.A. in political science. After college, he moved to Winston-Salem, where he became a steelworker and union steward. He retired after 30 years.

A beloved dad who always did his best, he was as big-hearted as he was short-tempered. He was good at telling corny jokes, reading books, cry-laughing, watching movies, and enjoying a good cup of coffee.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Katherine Lamp and her husband, Jeff Irving, and grand cats, Giada and MiniMini of Winston-Salem; son, Eric Cayce of St. Petersburg, FL; son, Justin Lamp and wife Tina of Phoenix, Arizona; grandaughter, Kirsten Lamp and fiancee Nakia Tolley, and great-grandchildren, Landon Demers and Tyson Tolley of Winston-Salem; brother, John Lamp and wife Charlene of Colfax, NC; and brother James Lamp of Badin, NC.

A military honors funeral ceremony will be on Friday, August 5 at 9 a.m. at the Salisbury National Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Vasculitis Foundation.

Bobby was a classmate at North Stanly. He never showed his "grouchy" side to his friends but kindness. Sympathy to all the family.

Bobby was my brother-in-law whom I loved dearly. His "grouchy" persona was just a cover up. He was actually a big softie with a big heart. He loved to laugh! His family and friends admired and adored him. Bobby was the type person that you were truly blessed to know. He was brave in so many ways, and he bore all his pain in silence to protect those he loved. A true Marine at heart. Brave and caring! Thank you for your service, Bobby, you sacrificed so much. I thank God to have been your sister-in-law.

Bobby was my brother-in-law, and I loved him dearly. He served bravely for his country in the U.S. Marine Corp in Vietnam. All of his family and friends loved and admired him. Bobby koved playing the part of the grouch, but he was actually a big softie...he loved to laugh. He hid pain from others, and bore it in silence. Such a brave man! I thank God for sharing him with al of us .
